Michael Bryant's infamous "pit bull interview"

Michael Bryant, architect of BSL in Ontario, was attorney general for the Ontario Liberal party. When confronted for not listening to expert animal welfare organizations, and misquoting statistics, Bryant frustrated said, "you don't ask an attorney general to be the dog expert....the bottom line is its going to be up to the experts". 

FACT:

  • 44 experts testified at the hearings
  • 43 testified against a breed ban

    But..Bryant's mind had previously been made up.  All Liberal MPP's votes fell in line.

Bill 16 would repeal the provisions in the Ontario Dog Owners Liability Act that prohibits restricted pit bulls and remove the breed-specific language.

2ND READING Queens Park debate OF BILL 16

2nd reading of Bill 16 to repeal all aspects of the Ontario breed ban heats up when debate moves from PCPO MPP Randy Hillier to MPP David Zimmer of the OLP. Ends with the final vote on the 2nd reading which sent Bill  16 to committee hearings where all 13 presenters testified against the Ontario breed ban.

Saving ontario dogs from bsl

In Oct 2015 the OSPCA filed a court application to put down 21 dogs (spoken of in the video) who were "saved" from a dog fighting ring in Tilbury/Chatham. OSPCA then deemed the dogs "unfit for rehabilitation",  This caused pubic outrage and created a fire storm with animal lovers. Ultimately, thanks to thousands of dog advocates, and especially Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary,  the dogs were eventually freed in May 2017 and sent to the US. "A DYING BREED"

Short documentary by fourth year graduating students of Seneca Collage on the Ontario breed ban in 2013. This controversial documentary on breed-specific legislation (BSL) offers broadly differentiating opinions and points of view. Interviewees include MPP Cheri DiNovo known to legislate bills for equality;  Dr. Tim Zaharchuk, former president of the Ontario Veterinary Association; Fran Coughlin,  former advocate for persons with disabilities- turned activist against BSL; and lastly Barbara Kay, a newspaper journalist, writer, speaker and strong proponent of BSL. The dogs in the video will of course speak for themselves.

Rally at coronation park in support of bill 60

 Rally in support of Bill 60 features MPP Cheri DiNovo and two dog owners whose non-offending dogs were seized under breed-specific legislation.

Highlights from anti-bsl Rally in support of Bill 60

Hundreds attended rally to end BSL. MPP Cheri DiNovo opens up the rally. Video features a touching story from actress/activist Maggie Q from the television shows Nikita and Designated Survivor.  Maggie speaks about the dog she adopted after finding out the dog had been shot 3 times.  Demonstrators then walk/march through the streets of Toronto to bring awareness of the havoc, carnage and discrimination bought upon the people and pets of Ontario due to breed-specific legislation.   

Rally in support of 2nd reading of bill 16 at Queens Park

This video features excerpts from both the 1st and 2nd reading rallies at Queen Park in support Bill 16 which would remove breed-specific legislation (BSL) in Ontario.  Features various MPP's from different parties, animal activists - including actress Maggie Q of Nikita fame. 

YES WE CAN Rally to support Tri-Party Bill 16

"Yes We Can Rally" Held on February 23, 2012 in support of the second reading of Tri-Party Bill 16 put forth by NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo, PCPO MPP Randy Hillier and OLP Kim Craitor.  Bill 16 would remove the breed-specific language in the Ontario Dog Owners Liability Act (DOLA).  Passed 2nd reading handsomely and sent to committee meetings where all presentations favoured  removing the breed ban.
