Since the enactment of Bill 132,( aka the pit bull ban) Ontario Citizens have protested the inception of Breed Specific Legislation throughout Ontario and supported those who have had their K9 companions seized for destruction simply because of how they look and certainly NOT because they were “dangerous dogs”.
Many protests have been held throughout Ontario, as well as Candle Light Vigils, since 2005 to create awareness and to remember many of our K9 companions taken without just cause and before their time. Many of the photo’s and video’s of these protests are listed below.

YES WE CAN RALLY
Getting the message “out there” that BSL in NOT “old news” but an issue in this upcoming election. MPP David Zimmer who headed up the committee meetings that enacted Breed Specific Laws, is confronted with the fact that the Liberals need to LISTEN to the experts, and be accountable for bad stupid laws enacted out of fear and ignorance through intimidation & harsh fines. Below is an article written about MPP Zimmer declaring the ban, old news.

PROTESTING BSL IN ONTARIO VIDEO’S
On August 29, 2005 a Liberal majority at Queens Park enacted BSL in Ontario. The rage continues in 2010 as thousands of non offending dogs have been ripped out of loving family homes and destroyed. The battle for common sense continues.

Pet Central gave exceptional coverage of “Hersheys Rally” interviewing several of the days participants, MPP Cheri DiNovo, Bill Bruce, Rui Branco, and several dog owners. As well, a good presentation and perception of the harmful effects of Breed Specific Laws is given. The program also provides, a view of how responsible legislation and programs can be attainable and exist like in Calgary, Alberta.
A “Rememberance Wall” was constructed at Hershey’s Rally for those who have had their dogs seized and destroyed under Ontario’s pit bull ban. Many of those who attended, took the time to view and participate.

Phillip Huggins’ dog, Ginger was seized and ordered into custody at a City pound after a fight broke out between a muzzled and leashed Ginger and another dog on November 29, 2005. After a trial before a Justice of the Peace in the Ontario Court of Justice on July 11, 2007, Ginger was ordered to be destroyed. Mr. Huggins appealed that decision to a Judge of the Ontario Court of Justice and won.
The City and the Attorney General of Ontario then asked the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal that judgment and have Ginger destruction order stayed. The motion was argued on June 17, 2009, the following two video’s were taken at a protest as a result of that Appeal decision. November 2009 the Ontario Court of Appeal upheld the death sentence of Ginger with this statement. QUOTE ” The Legislature does NOT make mistakes & needs to be followed even though it leads to a manifest ABSURDITY & anything enacted by Legislature MUST be enforced however HARSH, ABSURD, & CONTRARY TO COMMON SENSE”. They certainly did get to make a statement of their thoughts of BSL eh?

Numerous protests where held in Brampton Ontario in 2009 when 2 dogs, Brittany and Rambo were scheduled to be euthanized (killed) in February of 2010. The two dogs never had no complaints against them and the owners had not broken any laws. One of the owners was a 75 year old woman on pension. An animal control officer saw her dog behind a fenced yard, and falsely determined it was a pit bull type dog. The second owner Rui Branco had several police cars show up at this house and seize his dog Brittany without warrent when he was not home. Rui Branco decided to make his case public and fought for his own Brittany and Rambo as well. This case cost the tax payers and the families tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees. In the end an independedent vet determined that dogs in fact, were not pit bulls thus not falling under the Ontario province legislation banning pitbulls.

Protest in Kingston Ontario Feb. 2010
Calleigh, a mix-breed and a very well mannered dog that was spayed was misidentified as a pit bull type dog, was seized from her owners to be destroyed. Her owners rallied around her, and went public, and took the case to court to fight for her life. A DNA test proved that she was not a pit bull. As yet, the Ontario Attorney General of Ontario will not provide the public with the costs of enforcing BSL in Ontario. It is estimated to be hundreds of millions of wasted tax payer dollars.
Michael Bryant enacted Bill 132 (AKA the Pit Bull Ban) August 29, 2005. The battle continues to repeal this senseless law that is resulting in the slaughter or our canine friends. Someone must stand for them, march for them, speak for them and defend them. So the battle contines….
